The 70’s called and want their house back…and I’m buying it!

By Erin Primrose, May 25, 2018

After a year and a half of our ow home buyer journey, my family has finally landed our dream home – well, it will be 4 (or likely 5) months from now. When we first set out, and after years of living in and fixing up our 1920’s bungalow in Multnomah Villlage I said “I’m not even going to paint a wall in my next house”. After looking for what seemed like an eternity while our current walls closed in on us (that second kid really put us over the edge – seriously), it became clear that we were not willing to pay top of market for someone else’s updates.

After a bit of resentment of how long it was taking, I came home to our existing home one day and showed gratitude by cleaning, organizing, and reclaiming my space. The very next day I was on a buyer consult and I asked if there were any homes that had stood out that they wanted to go see. Lo and behold it was a house that when I saw it pop up on my alerts I thought, “wow, now that is a piece of work if I ever saw one” and tried to communicate this as tactfully as I have the ability to do.

We went and toured it, and as I was walking the buyers through this time capsule I began pointing out the untapped potential in every corner. I found myself thinking, “they are going to want to buy this house, and I am going to choose to support their dreams because that is my job”. Fast forward to that afternoon when I got the call that the home was too much to take on and not in their current school district. I called Kyle, my husband (who was extra grumpy that day and not in the mood to look at yet ANOTHER house) and asked him to meet me.  To my surprise and for once, he did not think I was crazy and we put together an offer that felt right to us. We ended up beating out a higher offer with competitive and creative terms, and could not be more excited.

We are now the proud owners of this PROJECT, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!! Stay tuned for updates as the process goes on. NEXT UP: Asbestos Remediation and Demo
