Seriously? What next?

By Cheri Harney, April 16, 2018

First time home owners Chris and Elise just got the keys to the cutest little Craftsman in North Portland. They are just a few blocks from the MAX line, and walking distance to Arbor Lodge park and a New Seasons. This little house was built in 1909 and has been carrying the weight of 5 layers of roofing as it has sheltered families for over 100 years. Home inspections brought some tough results—the house desperately needed a tear-off reroof job. The old one was was 2 inches thick with 2 layers of old cedar shingles and 3 more layers of composition. I think the house sighed with relief when those 2 dumpster loads of weight were lifted off the rafters! The 109 year old sewer line was a true antique that served the house well for more than a century but it was time for a fresh start there too. Unfortunately, as the sewer was being replaced, the antique galvanized water service line took a hit and required replacement as well. Those old pipes are fragile! Radon levels in the home were elevated which called for installation of radon remediation system in the crawl spaces. This was one of those situations where a sense of humor all around, good communication and a problem-solving, collaborative approach between seller, buyers and both agents is what got us to the finish line. Congratulations team! Here’s to years of happy memories in your new home!
