I was very excited when Vivi contacted me to help her find her first home. She had worked hard for a long time after school to save up enough to purchase a family home. When we found new construction in Lents, her eyes lit up with a sparkle; beautiful finishes, move in ready with enough space for everyone. On top of it all, purchasing this home could mean a tax abatement for 10 years! All of this was like a gift that she had worked so hard to make happen. She could imagine her son running from room to room, hearing his laughter. She knew this was the home for her family. It was not going to be easy making this happen with her work schedule but Vivi was determined. She met me every day at lunch, near the end of the transaction to provide everything needed. She kept a smile on her face and joked with me about duplicating documents and maintaining copies of everything. When I called to tell her that the home was finally hers, I could hear the tremor of excitement in her voice. Meeting that night at the front door of the home, I handed her the key. She tried it in the lock and with no success turned to me in distress. Taking the key silently back, I opened the door and stepped aside. As I watched them walk in, I realized she’s going to get a lot of practice in the future with that lock and key.
