Love letter for my client

By Shannon Baird, September 12, 2018

This is the first time I have ever written this type of letter in my 16 year real estate career. When there was a tight deadline and my client, Kim, was not able to write a letter to the seller about why she wanted to buy their home, I stepped in and wrote a letter to include with her offer. The letter outlines our relationship why I am so passionate about helping Kim. It is all about love, friendship and service.

To whom it may concern,
Kim is an upstanding human and a lovely woman who I am proud to call my friend. I met Kim through her mother, Sadie, who was the matriarch of the family and the light of our neighborhood.

I live in the Sabin neighborhood and moved there 8 years ago. As part of getting to know the area, I would take morning walks daily. One morning, Sadie was walking near my home and I greeted her, she had just missed the bus and I offered her a ride for an errand she needed to take care of.  She immediately extended blessings to me. I was drawn to Sadie and quickly fell in love with her and her family. She had the care of several grandchildren and great grandchildren. On any day there could be 4 generations under one roof. Moving into a new neighborhood can be challenging but Sadie accepted me and my family with open arms.

Sadie was a natural caretaker and so too is Kim. She is just like her mother – kind, loving and looking out for others. When Sadie fell ill, it was Kim who took care of everything. She was the caretaker for her mother, her advocate and often her friend. Out of 6 siblings, it is Kim (the youngest) who rises to every occasion. She is grounded, organized and the anchor for the family. Kim works at a local hospital and her calmness and kindness are other assets that make her an exceptional employee.

When Sadie passed away 2 years ago, I worked with the family to put the home on the market. Having been their family home for over 35 years and having seen many generations live there, the home was in need of extensive love. I worked side by side with Kim, hauling out old clothes, papers, arranging for furniture removal. We pulled carpet, cleaned the floors, scrubbed the kitchen. The entire time Kim was upbeat and positive. During the listing process she put all of her trust and faith in me to guide her and her siblings to make the best possible outcome for the sale of her childhood home. There were several offers and while Kim looked to me for guidance she also listened to her heart when choosing an offer to accept. While she misses her family home, she and I are both happy to see that the new owners fully restored it to be enjoyed by future generations to come.

Kim‘s trust and friendship means the world to me. Since the sale of Sadie’s home 2 summers ago, we have been searching for a place that Kim can now call her own. It has been a tough journey. We have been outbid time and time again, most recently on a bank owned home when the bank only cared about making a profit. We have been hoping to find a seller who leads with the same kind of heart as Kim. One that wants the best buyer for the future of their home and their community.

Kim has gifted me her love, acceptance and trust. There is nothing more I could hope for than to gift her the opportunity of buying her first home.
