Happy Hayhurst Bungalow

By Jennifer Johnston, December 3, 2018

In early August, I received a call from Robert and Kathryn.  A delightful couple who had just moved to Portland. They reached out to me after finding my bio online. We met at the most adorable local coffee shop, called Maplewood, to get to know one another and ensure we would make a great team.  After meeting for about an hour, and devouring delicious drinks, we were excited about the prospect of finding them their first home.

As busy professionals with a young daughter, Robert and Kathryn wanted a home that was for the most part move-in-ready. It needed to have at least three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a big yard, an open floor plan and walkable to shops and yet be in the trees. They were very interested in Division St, Alberta St and Multnomah Village. However they were open to areas like Sellwood and St Johns too.  The price point $550,000 was our target. And timing, was by early next year as they had just signed a lease.

When we began to search for homes within their criteria, we found that there were not a lot of options. Many had funky floor plans or needed a lot of work.  After seeing even a few more homes, we decided to push the price and boundary a little more.  At the same time, Robert and Kathryn were We all fell for a new construction craftsman home in St Johns.  It was perfect until someone wrote an offer and it became a competitive situation.  Going back to the drawing board, a home in Hayhurst popped up. It had almost everything plus a lot of extras. It is a carefully restored 1926 bungalow in the popular Maplewood neighborhood. Walking distance to the school and April Hill park. Just refinished wood floors on main, new paint and custom remodeled kitchen with granite counter tops. One of a kind main bathroom with heated floors. Large family room off kitchen with access to the large brand new private deck. Cozy private fire pit area. Massive drive way with room for a RV. Garage with separate 33×10 foot shop.

Congratulations, to our newest buyers!
