Flirting with Portland

By Constance Rigney, April 20, 2018

Chuck had been flirting Portland for almost 10 years.  It wasn’t that he didn’t want to commit–it wasn’t Portland, it was him. Work got in the way;  job offers in other cities, opportunities he couldn’t refuse.  But, he kept coming back.  The dining, the biking, the friends, the shows–he was hooked on all the city had to offer.  Chuck thought long and hard about his relationship with Portland and realized he didn’t want to be without it anymore.  So, he decided to take the plunge; he decided to move to Portland!

Chuck casually looked at homes on his own for a few years; hitting up weekend open houses, scoping For Sale signs, and checking out the personality of various neighborhoods.  So, when I met Chuck, I met a man with a plan.  He had a vision and a list.  Chuck knew exactly what his long-term home needed to have and how it needed to feel.

The houses that Portland had to offer this spring  just were not fitting the bill.  But, we hunted, we visited, we did not give up.  When Chuck finally met the lovely bungalow, that he is now happy to call home, it was pretty much love at first sight. With a shop for his woodwork, location on a quiet street, walkability, and perfect size, this house ended Chuck’s flirtation with Portland.  He is now a fully-committed Portlander and couldn’t be happier about his choice!

25 years ago I left a tiny town in the small state of Connecticut and headed west for the big trees, big mountains, and rugged beauty of Oregon. My eyes are still wide with wonder today. Though I've had some love affairs with Washington and California, Oregon is my soul-state. Captivated by Portland (and my husband Scott), I made a cozy North Portland Craftsman Bungalow my home. And so began my infatuation with Portland culture--the tiny neighborhood restaurants, the most amazing large bookstore, the crocheted bike racks, the local musicians, the murals, and of course, the perfectly poured pints. I spent ten wonderful years in this city as a practitioner of Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. Learning even more about Portland's community, neighborhoods, and hidden gems through the tales and experiences my clients shared with me. The city became so much more than a collection of places; it became the story of the people who call Portland home. It's clear to me that helping people on their journey to wellness is not so different from helping people through the process of buying or selling a home. It begins with making a connection, establishing trust, and finding joy in the process. I'm here to advocate for you, find the answers you need, and smooth any bumps along the way. In my time, I've rented, renovated, restored, bought and sold homes. I understand, first hand, the challenges, hard work, and financial and emotional investments in the buying/selling/rental processes.  My goal as your agent is to support your needs and desires, and to work together to find the perfect place for you to begin, or rekindle, your own love affair with the city I'm so glad to call home.
