Today I helped Katie, a first-time homebuyer, close on her new home. Normally my clients are referred to me by a friend or family member but this time, working with Katie was what those in the industry call a “cold call”. She sent me an email and wanted to meet. Katie explained that she had been interviewing numerous agents over the last year and had not found a good fit. Working her way down a list, she reached out to me and asked if for our meet and greet I would show her properties. She had interviewed so many agents that she could not abide one more office interview.
During our initial meeting we viewed 2 homes and learned a bit about each other. We clicked during that meeting and she asked me to be her agent. Katie made the decision to write an offer on one of the homes we viewed. During our talks about how to structure the offer, the small conversations in between, we realized that we had numerous friends in common.
It is unusual for me to move so quickly from first meeting to first offer with someone I have not built a relationship with. However, it was this shared friend base that gave us both a sense of peace. We circled in the same community. A community of driven independent creatives who love Portland, who support each other, who care about the impact they have with others. For me, knowing Katie was part of my circle of friends was enough to form the foundations for a trusting working relationship. Meeting her family at the home inspection established an even deeper sense of trust. They are all good people.
It has been a journey down the road to homeownership. I am so glad that Katie did her research and found me. She is now the owner of a charming older home in NE Portland. It needs a bit of love but I know Katie will do her research (one again) and find exactly the right person to help her every step of the way.
Congratulations new friend.
