Bittersweet

By Nicolette Hanna, December 10, 2018

Brian came to me with a bittersweet story. He was being given a gift from his mom to help purchase a home, so that she could live with him and his fiancé and be taken care of as her Parkinson’s advanced. The goal was to find a home with two separate living spaces, to provide some separation, but to avoid stairs and allow for independence with dignity. A lot of split-level homes provided the perfect separation of space, but came with stairs going both up and down to get anywhere. Enter SE 9th. The main entrance of the home contained no stairs, and a breath-taking view of the ½ acre lot. Not only that, but the slope of the backyard allows for a stair-less entry to the downstairs separate living quarters of the home. This home provides everything needed, and more, and I couldn’t be happier for Brian and his family to have less bitter and more sweet memories in a home of their own. Congratulations!

I fondly remember growing up in a quaint, classic 100-year-old bungalow. My mom was an avid gardener, planted fragrant flowers, fruit trees, and veggies and incorporated quirky tile mosaics throughout our backyard. My favorite part of my childhood home, however… the pull down stairs to the attic which led to my playroom! The fireplace, hardwood floors, and front porch where I spent so much time evoke a such a feeling of family and home for me. I so appreciate the uniqueness of Portland area homes, and being able to re-live how houses evolve from their original build to how they live today, picturing families and stories along the way. My transition to real estate from non-profit residential energy efficiency work was catalyzed by my attraction to the innovativeness and creativeness of the Portland housing stock. It was also super important to me to tap into my community in a deeper way; connecting with people one-on-one and being able to actually see the positive outcomes of my work in a tangible way. Being a real estate agent allows me to form deep and meaningful connections with people while satisfying my own insatiable curiosity for Portland homes. I approach my work for my clients as if I’m in their shoes, buying or selling. It’s personal! It’s critical that my clients have an authentic and enjoyable experience working with me, with honesty and integrity being my top priority all the time. My goal is to evolve the perception of real estate agents from perhaps less than trustworthy sales folks to client-focused, highly trusted and thoughtful individuals. When I have free time, you might catch me enjoying some live music or dancing with PDX Dance Collective (did I mention I have a degree in dance?). I also love to hike with Patrick, my husband, and my mini Australian Shepherd puppy, Stringer Bell. Admittedly where you’re most likely to catch me, however, is eating and drinking delicious food and cocktails at the many great Portland restaurants. If I’m not it town, I’m likely in the southern Caribbean… it feels like a second home! I am an accredited Earth Advantage Broker, Accessory dwelling unit (ADU) specialist, and I have also received the Five Star Real Estate Agent Award, recognizing outstanding service professionals. It would be my honor to serve you in buying or selling your home! Nicolette Hanna Earth Advantage Accredited Broker Licensed in Oregon
