Anticipa-A-tion!

By Tom and Doug, February 7, 2018

Remember the song Anticipation? Carly Simon sang it, then it became a jingle for Heinz ketchup – all about waiting when something is worth the wait. Well that is certainly what these folks have been doing – in contract for the past 4 months!

Jenny and Marcus absolutely loved this superbly remodeled Queen Anne Victorian, but it wasn’t quite big enough for their family’s needs. We were encouraged to make an offer contingent upon getting permission for an addition. As this is in a historic neighborhood, this proved to be challenging. After 3.5 months it proved to be impossible – no addition, no way, no how. So we started to terminate the purchase. Bummer!

But wait – they really did love the house, and didn’t want to walk away. The Seller really wanted to simply be done. So we figured out a path forward involving some additional negotiating on terms, and ultimately closing. Whew!

Portland. We like it. This has become a bit of a meme with family and friends because we so often find ourselves enjoying something unique to Portland and/or the Pacific NW. It can sound glib, but it is simply and completely true. Here since 1992, we are among the ‘newer locals’ - not natives, but completely committed to keeping our city great. It’s probably more honest to say we love it here. Professionally we focus on the inner city neighborhoods on both sides of the Willamette River. This means knowing about the spectrum of housing inventory: ranches and bungalows, classic and contemporary, condos and houses; as well as understanding the neighborhoods where these properties are found. Everybody has a different idea of what ‘home’ looks like, and we apply our breadth of knowledge to make sure you succeed in achieving your specific real estate goals. Sellers - we commit to guiding you through this process: preparation of your property to maximize its appeal, customized marketing materials and advertising, evaluation of offers received, opening of escrow and, finally, closing the transaction. Our advice about how to best prepare for the market is determined both by how much time and energy you have to commit to this as well as our awareness of what Buyers are likely to appreciate (and reward.) Once the home is ready, we and our team will produce the most beautiful and effective marketing materials to generate tremendous Buyer enthusiasm. Throughout this process we minimize your stress by being available and communicating clearly. Buyers - you have so many resources available to you! We will make sure you are aided by technology, not overwhelmed by it. Touring is key to evaluating properties so we will get you through as many homes as possible to make sure you find the right one. Our evaluation of homes together will be aided by our knowledge of location and common issues (informed by attending countless inspections!) We listen carefully to what you are hoping for, making sure you purchase a property that truly meets your needs and supports your lifestyle. Our work together will be driven by your wants and needs. The first step is a conversation. Call us!
