Oh those pesky knees and hips… Doesn’t it seem like the design is seriously lacking in these particular areas of our bodies? Unfortunately, until there’s a celestial revision to the blueprints, or major advances in medical technology, it seems like finding a home that allows one to age in place, is the next best option! Happy and John have done just such a thing. They had been looking on and off for a few years, for a home to replace their beloved, colorful, 1910 craftsman with garden oasis on NE Morgan, which inconveniently happens to have all bedrooms and the only full bathroom upstairs. Happy and John wanted to be smart and put a housing plan in place that would allow them to age in place for decades to come.
The rub? Happy and John are “old house” people! They love period craftsman charm and elegance. There’s not a wide and gracious craftsman front porch that they wouldn’t mind putting a swing on. Vinyl windows? No thank you. Big open kitchen great-room? Nope. Sexy one-level Atomic Ranch? meh… So finding an old house with a majority of the square footage on the main floor, was a tall order.
Enter 5800 N Haight Ave. A charismatic corner bungalow complete with elegant front entry hall, light-filled living and dining rooms, tidy kitchen, and (drum roll please) 2 bedrooms and a full bathroom on the main floor! Add to that, lots of extra space upstairs for friends, family and grandchildren, and one heck of a sweet front porch, and BINGO, we’ve got a match for Happy and John. Let’s us know when the swing is up – we’ll bring the lemonade…
